Might be getting an HHR on Tuesday.

Sure, it’s missing a window and a bumper . Sure, that tire is on backwards. Sure, it’s full of discarded cigarettes. But it runs and drives, it has current emissions, it has a clean title, and it’s only $550. The KBB for a nicer one is over $2000. Best part: it’s legal for autocross. It probably can’t run rallycross, but I’m willing to stick to pavement this time. It’ll be my Gambler 500 car, then I’ll use it as my next race car until it dies. Then I’ll sell it for $600 or so and come out on top.

I asked the guy if he’ll take $500 and I’m waiting to hear back. If he will, I’ll more than likely go through with it. If he won’t, I’ll mor e than likely go through with it.

Not worth $500. I’d pay $200 max for a shitty old HHR that’s missing parts and probably is broken in many ways besides that you can initially see.

If you need autox tips, let me know. I drove the crap out of mine to a championship win against a Corolla S and Mini...and I had the only automatic. That said, I’m not sure if it’s worth $500 unless you can find junkyard parts to put it back together.

Anecdotally , HHRs are terribad. My cleaning lady had one from new and the door literally fell off. My bug guys company bought a fleet of them and the one he was driving had to have the engine replaced . Twice.

That said... running driving car for $500. So... yeah.

Even if I plan on reselling it? I mean, I don’t need it to last forever. Worst case scenario, I sell it for scrap.

My aunt had one and the back window exploded on it after a few months. No impact or adverse weather

At least with the organization I run with, you can rallycross anything that’s wider than it is tall. An HHR could certainly run with us.

I liked mine, not fun to drive, (like a plymouth grand voyager, but in miniature) but not a superb automobile.  On the plus side they are littering the self serve wreckers like the chevettes of 20 years ago.

Nah I say if you’re comfortable with it I’d so go for it. There is very little that would dissuade me from buying a running and driving car for $500. Also while they may (allegedly) be terribad, they also look pretty cool.

As the kids say, send it.

Hard to beat a $500 drivable car. Worst case scenario the motor blows during autocross and you get the bulk of the money back from scrap.
